Culver Parade in Sandown has been closed by Police in both directions following an earlier road traffic incident involving a bus, which has left 2 people injured.
At around 14:30 a number of resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene near Sandham Gardens, with 2 ambulances and 3 paramedic cars in attendance.
Island Echo is told that a road traffic incident has left 2 passengers injured, although the severity of their injuries is unclear at this time. Both have been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
It is unclear what exactly has caused the injuries sustained. The bus in question is understood to be a local community service driven by volunteers.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called to assist the ambulance service following reports of a road traffic incident in Culver Parade, Sandown, involving a bus at around 12:30 this afternoon.
“Two passengers on the bus were reported as being injured at this time.
“We remain at the scene.”
Police have closed the busy road connecting Yaverland and Sandown in both directions as they continue their investigations.
Southern Vectis say their Route 8, Island Coaster and Downs Breezer buses are currently unable to serve Yaverland or Culver Parade as we will divert along Marshcombe Shute in both directions.
UPDATE – The road has now re-opened in both directions.
It’s understood a car pulled out of Fort Street into the path of the bus, which brakes heavily.
