UPDATED: A police chase through Newport and Cowes has resulted in a vehicle decamp in Parkhurst Forest tonight (Saturday), leading to officers searching the dense woodland for the occupants of the vehicle.
Multiple police units are reported to have been pursuing the Citoren Saxo between Newport and Cowes since 22:15 before the vehicle was abandoned at Marks Corner, one of several entrances to Parkhurst Forest.
Police on the ground are now using dogs and the assistance of the National Police Air Service helicopter to track down the occupants of the hatchback, who have fled from pursuing Police.
It is understood the driver made off from officers after being pulled over for a potential traffic offence, leading to the pursuit.
UPDATE @ 23:25 – The National Police Air Service helicopter has now stood down from the incident.
A total of 3 people have been located and detained thanks to Police Dog Oscar and the NPAS helicopter from Bournemouth.
Recovery of the Saxo has been requested by Police.
UPDATE MONDAY – Police have today confirmed that the Saxo was pursued along Medina Way, Hunnyhill, through the Dodnor Industrial Estate, St Marys Hospital grounds then onto Horsebridge Hill, Newport Road and into Cowes before eventually coming to a stop at Marks Corner on Noke Common.
3 males were on suspicion of supplying a Class A drug and traffic offences. All 3 have been questioned and released on bail pending further enquiries. They are due to return to Newport Police Station on 25th May.
