UPDATED: Police, fire and ambulance crews are attending a 2-car crash on Knighton Shute this morning (Thursday).
The incident has occurred on a downhill bend close to the junction with The Downs Road.
It appears one vehicle – a Ford Fusion – has gone wide and crossed over into the path of an oncoming Toyota Rav4 at fairly low speed.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have mobilised appliances from Newport and Shanklin to the scene to assist the female driver of the Rav 4.
The road leading to Knighton and Newchurch has been closed in both directions.
UPDATE @ 10:12 – In an unexpected turn of events, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been called to the scene and has landed in a nearby field.
Motorists should avoid the area.
UPDATE – 1 female has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital with minor injuries.
All emergency services have now stood down and the road has re-opened.
