Sandown Town Council recently repaired and repainted the ramps at the Sandham Grounds Skatepark, following consultation with local users of the park.
The town council has also helped support an Autumn programme of activity from IW Community Action, and have allocated resources to match fund a potentially significant PlayZone project.
Town Mayor Alex Lightfoot said:
“Sandham Grounds is a really well-used activity area, by all generations particularly our youth. We are working with the Football Foundation on a potential PlayZone project and it’s been identified as a priority project. However, it is still subject to standard application criteria, including achieving planning permission. We are delighted to have reached this stage and will provide updates as the project progresses”.
Bay Youth Intervention Development Officer Julian Wadsworth MBE added:
“We are fortunate to have an PhD student, from our partnership with University of Portsmouth, helping to develop the initiative, alongside a local youth provision forum, which will help ensure consultation with children, young people and families to help shape the project as it progresses.”
The Town Council has had to remove some equipment in the playpark following recent inspections and damage, with replacements being part of the longer-term project and availability of funding.
