A Wood Pigeon trapped inside Ryde’s Tesco Extra store for the majority of last week with no food or water was thankfully able to fly free over the weekend.
It is believed the pigeon made its way into the store on Monday 17th February, becoming stuck in a non-public section of the store where deliveries come in.
Attempts to lure the bird from the store proved fruitless, with a pest control team called in.
On Friday (21st February) it was confirmed that traps had been laid, enticing the bird – who had gone without for some 5 days – will some much-needed food.
Posts documenting the pigeon’s ordeal were shared across social media platforms.
It was hoped that once caught, the pigeon would be passed into the care of Skippers Sanctuary to check him/her over. However, it was confirmed on Saturday (22nd February) that the pigeon had been able to fly out of the store and back into the open air of its own accord.
A post on the Skippers Sanctuary Facebook page has said:
“Although I didn’t get the chance to check Mr or Mrs Wood Pigeon over, I’m glad he/she felt strong enough to release him/herself after filling up on food.”
Skippers is a sanctuary providing long term care for disabled and un-releasable wild birds.
Great news, pigeons are amazing, they done so much
in WW2 for the country.
‘they done’?
And will do again if required.
Have you got nothing better to do.
Coronation Street repeats are available on
catch up.
Numpty!
It’s a pigeon for heavens sake. Of course it is going to fly off, given the chance. I suggest that Skippers Sanctuary find something more useful to do with their time and money. Leave wild animals alone.
