A siren-like emergency warning message will be sent by the Government to mobile phone users across the Isle of Wight next month to test a new public alert system.
The 10-second long pop-up – which is due to be sent out across the country on Sunday 23rd April – will cause phones to be redundant until the alert has been acknowledged.
The system will follow similar models to the ones used in places like The United States, Canada and Japan and is intended to alert members of the public to life-threatening situations and emergencies such as floods, fires and even things like earthquakes and tsunamis.
Those who don’t wish to take part in the trial can opt-out in their device settings should they wish to.
Whilst alerts will only ever be sent by the Government and emergency services, The Cabinet Office has stressed that the alerts are secure and free to receive and that they don’t reveal anyone’s location.
Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Oliver Dowden said:
“We are strengthening our national resilience with a new emergency alerts system, to deal with a wide range of threats – from flooding to wildfires.
“It will revolutionise our ability to warn and inform people who are in immediate danger, and help us keep people safe.

Clearly it is all about the real risk of a Nuclear strike.
The important people whilst having advanced warning, will be hiding in purpose built bunkers for a few years, BUT they need some of the plebs to ‘survive’ to grow food etc for when the ‘leaders’ finally emerge.
So whilst those left out of the bunkers scratch about to exist and grow a little food, with hideous cancers and bits falling off, those safely underground know that such is not permanent so will ‘take’ what the plebs have suffered for, much as they do NOW.
