Police, Paramedics and HM Coastguard were called to Shanklin earlier this morning (Wednesday) after a person took up position on the cliff top overlooking the Esplanade.
Concerns were raised for the welfare of male shortly before 04:50.
Officers were able to talk the individual down and he was passed into the care of medical teams.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were mobilised to the incident but were not required to carry out a rescue.
