8 new electric vehicle charging bays will be built in Ryde Town Centre.
County Hall has approved Zest Eco’s application for a lawful development certificate to install 4 rapid EV chargers, with accompanying electrical equipment, on land next to 18 Union Road in Ryde.
The site is currently used as a car park and is within walking distance of cafes, restaurants, hotels and bars.
6 of the charging bays will be on the right-hand side of the car park facing Union Road. A substation and 2 other bays will be at the rear end of the site directly opposite the street.
Zest Eco describes itself as one of the UK’s ‘fastest growing’ EV charge point operators which specialises in deploying and managing charging infrastructure for ‘local authorities, brands and destinations’.
The firm’s website says:
“Our mission is to make the shift to EV a realistic option for all, by delivering a reliable charging experience that prioritises clean air and net zero goals.”
County Hall said Zest Eco’s application was approved due to it being permitted development under The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015.
The application follows a separate, successful bid for an EV charging zone in the car park of Newport’s Morrisons supermarket, approved by the council in October last year.
About time, the island is very slow catching up
with the mainland re net zero.
There are too many Diesel and Petrol vehicles polluting
the island.
Many mainland locations charge Diesel motorists extra fees to
park their vehicles.
The island is doing nothing at present to tackle emissions.
More charging points are much needed.
Oh my god your one of them are’nt you the lemmings that do what the government say ..
My EV is great
What emissions?? how do you know how does it affect you?
Look at the damage being done to the world.

Not if you buy a used one.
