A pensioner at the centre of an attempted murder probe has been released under investigation, Police have confirmed.
As first reported by Island Echo, an 83-year-old male was detained by Police on suspicion of attempting to murder a woman at a property on The Ridgeway, Sandown on the morning of 9th August.
The woman was airlifted directly to Southampton General Hospital with head injuries, described as being serious but not life-threatening.
The suspect was also taken to hospital, but was discharged from the care of St Mary’s Hospital a short while later. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody at Newport Police Station, where he remained for questioning, before being released on conditional bail until 9th November.
Forensic investigators spent several hours examining the crime scene, with Police maintaining a scene guard for some 2 days. Police said that the incident was one of a domestic nature and do not believe there to be anyone else involved.
The 83-year-old man has now been released from bail but remains under investigation.
