Paramedics are tending to a pedestrian who has been involved in a collision with a car on a busy roundabout in Newport this morning (Thursday).
The incident has occurred on the mini roundabout at the junction of Hunnycross Way and Riverway, just below the Medina Way dual carriageway and close to the Lidl supermarket.
Island Echo is told that a young girl – possibly a college student – has been injured as a result of the collision. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Police are also in attendance at the scene and are diverting traffic locally.
UPDATE @ 09:56 – The casualty has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital. She is said to be conscious and responsive having escaped any serious injury.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called just before 9am to a collision on River Way, involving a female pedestrian and a Mitsubishi.
“The pedestrian suffered a minor injury and has been taken to hospital.”

The scene has now been cleared.
Hope the young lady is okay, this accident was always on the cards I’ve witnessed and had some near misses there myself…..still the council saw fit to put drop kerbs there so that everyone can take their live in their own hands when trying to cross.
Councillors should get up off their arses and walk around these parts including Little London during rush hour to get the Island experience!
Why is there not a crossing there. There are steps and a dropped curb there. Finish it and put a crossing there.(One with lights).
Not surprised, A huge number of students and industrial estate workers have to risk crossing that junction every day. I wrote two years ago to ask for a proper pedestrian crossing there but nothing has been done.
Im not surprised…. You take your life in your hands when trying to cross there !!
