A man who was 8 times over the drug-driving limit was so unfit to drive a member of the public called the Police over his parking.
Joshua Winson, 21, of Salisbury Road, Ryde pleaded guilty to 1 count of drug driving (ketamine) after he provided a positive sample of 176 units in blood – more than 8 times the legal limit – when stopped on 3rd February this year.
The court heard that the 21-year-old had taken some ketamine the previous night, he then woke up the next day and drove to work – with the drugs still in his system.
Not long after, he was seen driving his Peugeot Partner van slowly around the McDonald’s car park with one member of the public noticing him parked badly between 2 spaces. They then called the Police believing him to be under the influence of alcohol.
Shortly after he was stopped by Police, admitting at the first opportunity that it was in fact drugs in his system, not alcohol.
The defence said that Winson had ‘a lot going on at home’ and that the ketamine was to help with those domestic struggles after a friend recommended it.
He was handed a 12-month disqualification from driving and ordered to pay a £166 fine, £85 costs and a £34 surcharge fee.

Is this a new thing, taking a roadside breath test for drugs?
“more than 8 times the legal limit”
there should be a zero limited
There should be a zero limit for all illegal drugs and alcohol for drivers.
No excuses accepted and much tougher sentences .
The legal system is becoming increasingly toothless.
This man could easily have killed someone.
Well done to the person reporting him.
Whilst I agree with you you have to wonder how many people take karms the night time one is 90% alchol the day one 70% then they inhalers, food contains alchol goes under the name ethanol mouth wash again so zero would affect probably 80% spray deodarant too orpmorh to easy severe pain as I found out, how the case is bag out off order,
Years ago, should you commit a crime and be found to have taken alcohol, this was then seen as another crime to be drunk, or in this case, drugged, and an even longer sentence was given.
Now low lives use being drunk or drugged as an excuse and courts, as our prisons are filled with the worlds dross now, more than our own, let them get away with such, knowing they cannot jail anyone for meaningful terms ever again.
So much for the UK’s cheap labour policy, it is all costing us dearly, IF we care to think about it.
What a hero keep up the good work
8 times the limit and only gets 12 months ban? Unbelievable
8 times over the limit and only a 12 month ban… I mean I get this is probably his first driving offence and he is only 21 but that is light to say the least.
With friends like his, who needs enemies! What an idiot, taking a drug that is used to tranquillise horses! Then be stupid enough to get in his car and drive. Beggars belief really
How strange that this lad took ketamine to help with his domestic struggles. Ketamine does not ‘help’ anyone. It is a drug that causes the body and mind to be separated, which can cause an out-of-body experience (referred to as a K-hole). It is often used as a drug during intense sex where the individual wishes to be submissive. Hallucinations and a loss of feeling in parts of the body or the whole body are common too.
It’s a shame that the courts did not force this lad to partake in a drug rehab programme. If he continues to use Special K, his body will soon get used to the effects, where he will want something ‘stronger’.
It’s not a tranquilizer.
Don’t know who would employ a person with these sorts of habits , or if self employed would want them anywhere near their house , 8 times the limit deserves a ban for life , such a light sentence for crime committed .
Doesn’t bare thinking about the damage he could of done he’s a disgrace to society ,and the justice system needs an overhaul
Our prisons are filled to the brim with the most vile from other countries now, so no hope of ever again seeing just sentences, and criminals know it, so just don’t care, and do as they please, knowing unlikely to ever be caught, and IF they are, then a token gesture punishment.
It will only ever get worse, not better, and this is with a Tory Gov, imagine a Labours idea of punishment.
James, imagine if Ms Diane Abbott got to be the Foreign Secretary. She would probably introduce a law that makes it unlawful to take the piss out of people for wearing odd shoes. When she was canvassing during the last election, she was seen wearing different shoes on several occasions. During the campaign, she was interviewed and expressed how ‘upset’ with her ‘mental health impacted’ when journalists took the piss when they noticed she wore odd shoes. How do these people get into such leadership roles? A waste of space and taxpayers’ money.
The defence said that Winson had ‘a lot going on at home’. Pathetic.
Most of us have domestic or other problems in our lives from time to time – but we don’t threaten the lives of others by drunk or drugged driving!
I bet he’ll have a bit more ‘going on at home’ after this.
But why are the courts so appallingly weak? Any ideas, Mr. Seely?
Wight Knight, Read Mr Carltons post above for the true reason ‘why’.
That is why, and that is why NO MP will dare tell it how it is due to the race card being pulled.
Fact
Using a horse tranquiliser to assist with domestic problems? Works every time in my house.
To be fair, they do take the edge off the day.
