A paedophile from Ryde has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after admitting a string of historic sex offences against a child.
Steven Roy Reddin, 58, of Arundel Close in Ryde, abused the child between 1991 and 1994, beginning when the victim was just 9-years-old.
The girl, now an adult, bravely reported the horrific abuse to Police in 2019 and a lengthy investigation followed, resulting in a voluntary interview with Reddin.
Now, 2 years after the allegations were made, Reddin has been jailed on 2 counts of rape a girl under 16, gross indecency with a child, inciting a girl under 14 to commit an act of gross indecency and 2 counts of indecent assault on a girl.
Appearing at Isle of Wight Crown Court on Monday 24th May, Reddin admitted all 6 offences. He appeared at the same court today (Friday 20th August) where he was handed 10 years in prison, a lifetime restraining order and a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
At an earlier hearing, it was detailed how Steven used clingfilm around his penis during one of the assaults which took place at a common in Ryde.
DC Gillian Harvey, who led the investigation, said:
“The woman in this case has shown incredible courage in coming forward to report this terrible abuse, which she had kept a secret for many years.
“The damage that this type of offending causes, and has caused, is indescribable, but this woman’s bravery has ensured that Reddin has been brought to justice.
“Reddin was fully aware that his actions amounted to abuse of the most horrific kind, yet continued his behaviour without sparing a thought for the impact this would have.”
“We encourage anyone who has been a victim of child sexual abuse to contact police on 101 where you can speak to someone in confidence”.
An NSPCC spokesperson said:
“This case shows that survivors of child abuse can see their abusers brought to justice, no matter how long ago the offences happened. The woman in this case has demonstrated tremendous bravery in speaking out about Reddin’s crimes, and we would encourage anyone who has been sexually abused to speak to a trusted adult.
“Adults who wish to report historic abuse, or have concerns about a child, can phone the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000 or email [email protected], while children can contact Childline any time on 0800 1111 or www.childline.org.uk.”

Well done to the brave lady to have the courage to come forward.
Not a long enough sentence as he was able to live his life for years after, but it ralely is!
I am astounded how many peadophiles live on the island ? I know of two more that are awaiting trial . Hang em high that’s the sentence they deserve.
The island is SATURATED with them it seems. Since I moved off the Island three years ago I’ve noticed loads in the local news, to the point where I may make a database to see how often sexual crimes are mentioned in the local news to give some idea to how often and prevalent it is. I mean a councillor who ran the JR zone was one so why cannot people see the patterns emerging over the years? Sexual crimes have gone UP on the island too if I remember correctly.
Another nonce, another nance sentence. How many pieces of scum is that during this week alone? Poisoning the Island
Unfortunately when a paedophile is released from the isle of Wight prison between 3-5 stay on the island each year scary thought.
nobody is released from HMP IW
Yes they are check your facts pratt
Oh Ron, Ron – you are very wrong. Not just in the spelling of “prat”. But also in your statement. But I guess you will not accept it and will quote some vague source.
Where do you get this information from, you talk complete and utter bollox, the nonces are sent back to there local prisons where they come from 3-5 days before there released ! They are only on the island prisons for there own safety (all sex offenders), the poor old local lags,go to hmp Winchester ! Apart from Albany remand awaiting sentence,10-12 of them against 1000 of kiddie fiddler’s ! But they make it count,it is like roorks drift in there.,…respect x
It’s “their” not “there”,”bollocks”, “Rorke’s Drift” and punctuation marks come immediately after the last letter of the last word of the sentence
prisoners have the right to settle in the area that they are released into, however, there are obvious exceptions – that being the isle of wight, as there are over 800 nonces in albany and there is no way they can be permitted to settle on the island after release.
If only your statement was true! The island jails are long term prisons, not dispersal jails. The only releases from HMP IOW are the local remands from the courts
Island jails have long term prisoners not all lifers which means they are released at some point
Why are you so thick? Yes,they are released, but not from here! They are transported in vans to there local prisons on the mainland where they finish there sentence and Then get released into there own local community, the only exception being is if they already have been living here and are local to the island!
10 years is nowhere near enough! He’ll probably be out in five years, maybe even three on licence.
Let’s hope the other prisoners find out what he is and make everyday seem.like a life sentence. .
We/they are separated from the scum (vulnerable adults). Why don’t you do some research into the prison system, you do no that both prisons on the island are 100% sex offenders?
Why call them paedophiles? They are CHILD MOLESTERS!
Same thing
These people have narcissistic traits. They don’t care who they hurt or the mental health issues they cause. These people will keep on ruining lives. They are selfish people who only think of their own needs. These sexual predictors should not be in our society
No shit Sherlock….
those individuals prefer kids and not adults. They are happy and comfortable with theirselves and actively brag about what they do, when amongst their own kind. These people are a danger to children until they are dead. There is no rehab, there is no redemption, there is no “way back” for them. They are what they are and are generally happy with it. They should be locked up for the remainder of their lives, without exception.
