Over £600 has been raised at a charity quiz night held for the fire-stricken Cowes Carnival Committee.
Last night (Friday) crowds of people gathered at Newport Football Club for the charity event, organised following last month’s devastating fire in Cowes which destroyed everything belonging to the carnival committee.
In total an amazing £660.04 was raised, which will now go towards rising the carnival from the ashes.
Stuart Ellis, a member of the Cowes Carnival Committee said:
“We are celebrating our 120th year and all of us at Cowes carnival are determined this will happen. We have to find a workshop and a new trailer to start building from scratch, so we’ll be working against the clock for the next 6 months.
“Many people have said to us take a year out; in carnivals that does not work. We have to fight our way out of this and be ready in July to take our place with other carnivals across the island.
“We would like to thank Newport Football Club for offering and arranging the quiz night in aid of Cowes carnival we really appreciate all their support”.
A trailer has now been sourced for the carnival to use, but it remains a long road ahead for the volunteers.
