The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have tackled an out of control fire near Chale this afternoon (Tuesday).
1 appliance from Newport Fire Station was mobilised to the rural South Wight at around 15:25.
Once on scene at Upper House Lane, the fire was found to be so large – 15 x 20m – that the assistance of the water carrier from Ventnor Fire Station was requested.
It is the second controlled burning call out for Newport today… at lunchtime they were mobilised to land near Downend.
Yesterday the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service tackled a field fire in Newport, prompting Group Manager Dean Haward to remind Islanders to think carefully about discarding my lighted materials, such as cigarettes and BBQs, during this period of dry and hot weather.
