A temporary one-way system on a major Newport route is to be removed this afternoon (Friday) following rapid progress on ongoing sewer works.
The traffic management on St Georges Way is being lifted after contractors installed around 360 metres of new rising main in just over 4 days.
The works had been expected to last around 3 weeks, but have progressed faster than planned, allowing the one-way system to be removed early.
The update comes just hours after Fairlee Road reopened following its recent closure, helping to ease traffic pressures across Newport.
However, further disruption is expected next week due to technical issues connecting to the existing foul sewer near Shide Road. A new foul pipe will now be installed across the road between Tuesday 5th May and Friday 8th May.
Minor works will also take place near the new retail park, although these are expected to cause minimal disruption as they will be focused on the footway.
Those behind the works have thanked residents for their patience and apologised for the additional works required to complete the scheme.
This afternoon Wren Kitchens has confirmed it is to open its first Isle of Wight showroom, at St George’s Retail Park, in December. Hallelujah
These workers need to train island roads how it’s done
360mtrs in 4 days
Island roads would have taken 3months and still get it wrong
Maybe all of the critical comments have actually made a difference to Island Roads attitude and work ethic…….but I doubt it.
