A one-way traffic restriction on Staplers Road in Newport is set to come into force later this morning (Monday) and last until at least April.
Southern Water are investing £400,000 in the renewal of a 500m water main which will see the existing pipe dug up between School Lane and Mayfield Drive.
Motorists heading into Newport will have to divert via Fairlee Road or Blackwater Road as the road will be shut in a westbound direction from the junction with Mayfield Drive. Island Echo understands access to Mayfield Drive will be maintained allowing local traffic to navigate back roads to join Fairlee Road.
Although the scheme is set to be completed by mid-April, Southern Water have warned that any unexpected issues could see the extension of work. Other schemes in Cowes, Brading and Ryde have all overrun by a considerable amount of time.
