OFSTED SAYS ‘GOOD’ ACROSS THE BOARD FOR ST HELENS PRIMARY SCHOOL

St Helens Primary School has been awarded a ‘good’ rating by His Majesty’s Inspectorate – with an ‘outstanding’ in personal development. Ofsted visited the East Wight school over 2 days in October and found all areas to be good, including the quality of education, behaviour, leadership and overall effectiveness. Inspectors found that pupils are polite and cheerful and arrive at school excited for the day ahead. They demonstrate the school’s value of respect in all they do. Furthermore, pupils behave well and live up to the school’s high expectations and are keen to learn and achieve well. It was also noted that the school ensures that all pupils experience a curriculum that prepares them for their next stage of education and beyond. There is clarity about what pupils need to learn and when. However, the school needs to make sure that curriculum tasks always have a clear enough focus on the intended learning. Overall pupils learn well but there are times when learning moves on too quickly. This means that in a few subjects, pupils’ misconceptions are not identified and addressed as well as they should be. The attention given to pupils’ personal development and wider opportunities is said to be impressive, which has led to an ‘outstanding’ rating. Headteacher Carl Wake has said he is delighted with the result which reflects the team effort from the whole school community. He has stressed the importance of the staff, pupils, parents, governors and the St Helens community in general for their continued efforts.
