Police have said that there is no wider risk to the public in relation to an incident that saw a child approached and offered sweets last week (Thursday) after official enquiries found the incident to be ‘not as was initially’ reported to them.
As first reported by Island Echo, on Thursday last week (23rd March) Police received reports of a suspicious incident that saw a boy – who was walking home from school – offered sweets and asked to get into a van by a person he didn’t know.
Officers attended the nearby Carisbrooke College and made enquiries in the area.
Now, on Monday Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have confirmed that there is no wider risk to the public.
A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“Officers have investigated this incident, including reviewing CCTV covering the area and have spoken to the child involved.
“Following the most recent information obtained by police, we are satisfied that this incident is not as was initially reported and there is no wider risk to the community associated with this incident.
“We continue to encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour to report this to police on 101. Dial 999 if a crime is in progress or someone is in danger.”

So either hoax or a child lied !. Why make wording complicated.

Yeah, I wish the police would just specify whether it was just paranoia, a misunderstanding or a hoax, or at least give more details about the incident.
Could easily have been that the child did know the person in the van and the incident was reported by someone who saw the child arguing with them.
But, hey, why consider anything else when the typical old farter “kids these days” knee-jerk response will do.

Sometimes the police turn a blind eye on a situation, regardless of what has been said we are not given a clear view on the matter after all D.Nettles turned into nothing and footage, paperwork etc went missing..so the case was closed. Too much brushed under the carpet..just saying…
