An Island woman who admitted stealing from Tesco and The Co-op on no less than 4 occasions back in April, has been handed a concurrent prison sentence.
Nina Hoskins, 39, of HMP Bronzefield, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court – via video link – having previously admitted 4x theft from a shop.
Prosecutor, Lauren Stone, told the court that Hoskins stole goods from Tesco Extra in Ryde and The Co-op in East Cowes on 4 separate occasions.
Hoskins stole the following:
- Alcohol and meat worth £163 from The Co-op on York Avenue, East Cowes on the 20th April 2024.
- Wine to the value of £31.50 from Tesco Extra on Brading Road, Ryde on the 23rrd April 2024.
- Wine to the value of £30.00 from Tesco Extra on Brading Road, Ryde on 25th April 2024.
- Items of an unknown value from The Co-op on York Avenue, East Cowes on 28th April 2024.
The court heard how earlier this month on the 4th September, Hoskins was sentenced to 18-months in prison for offences of actual bodily harm and criminal damage. Hoskins has a total of 13 convictions for 32 offences.
Defending Hoskins, Oscar Vincent said that his client was homeless at the time of the offending behaviour and that she was stealing for necessity and alcohol dependency.
Hoskins was handed sentences of 4 weeks custody on each count, however this is run concurrently with her existing sentence. She was ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge fee.

Just how is this compensation etc going to be recovered given that this person is 8n prison and will presumably be homeless once more when released to undoubtedly re offend?
I expect this country’s oap’s will have to support this decision along with everything else.
I suspect that many of our OAPs will find themselves seeing the logic of this behaviour this winter. Stealing food to pay the heating, or getting caught and sent to a nice warm prison until the spring.. what’s not to love?
