The driver of a BMW escaped injury after leaving the road and crashing into a tree between Shanklin and Ventnor late last night (Sunday).
Police were called to reports of a single vehicle collision the bottom of Cowleaze Hill just minutes before midnight.
Officers responded to the scene to find a black BMW 5-series off the carriageway and in the undergrowth.
It’s understood the vehicle mounted a grass verge and then collided with a tree.
The driver of the car spoke with officers but no arrests were made. No injuries were reported either.

Driving to fast again and not reading the road comes to mind here.
Typical of the Island ‘drivers’ nowadays White Top. In ‘my day’ we would hammer them until they saw sense.
Another crap driver mind you have you ever seen a good BMW driver?
So the car had a mind of its own then, just decided to crash into a tree and no one was actually driving it..
Or was it one of those driverless cars we keep hearing about…
BMW drivers will park anywhere they just don’t care
Speed is your friend…
Saw that car, if it’s the same one speeding through Ventnor on Saturday.
Here we go again!
Stay on the black stuff!
SPEEDING…….SPEEDING………SPEEDING
Or Perhaps also PHONE PHONE PHONE
How very dare you!!!!!
Were you there? Did you see my speed? Road and weather conditions???
There was a huge pot hole if you must know and want to blame anything or anyone
You were speeding. Maybe take a look at the speed signs when you drive through towns in future too !!!!!
So what your saying is that with all the vehicles that passed that same spot, including myself, and avoided an RTC after reading the road and its conditions you had to be the one to take evasive action to avoid it and end up in the trees, thankfully nothong was travelling in the opposite direction at the time as the outcome could have been a lot worse.
poor driving, poor road awareness and clearly distracted whilst speeding. bad drivers blame the road
Another moron on (but now temporarily off) our roads. Words fail….
Perhaps he was just avoiding parking charges.
You can’t park that there sir
But did he indicate?
Thought they were additional extras on a BMW lol.
Little keyboard warriors sat at home on your arses with nothing better to do than have an opinion on something you know nothing about. Bore off.
You would be surprised my friend, very surprised !
Keyboard warriors no, this obviously hits home to you.
Dealing with these idiots day in day out you are an accident waiting to happen, slow down, read the road and drive as to the way you were taught when passing your test will hopefully save your life as well as other road users.
Was it a diesel? There is one driving about in Ryde late evening / night. Looks like it’s doing drug deliveries. Seen at more than one property that stink of weed. Accelerates hard because driver wants to here the turbo go woosh.
