Fears that a firearm was located inside a Sandown property led to the deployment of Armed Police last night (Sunday) – but it has been confirmed that no weapons were located.
A total of 11 units were deployed to Victoria Road after fears were raised that a firearm was to be found inside a residential address occupied by a number of squatters, as first reported by Island Echo.
At least 5 individuals, all thought to be homeless, were detained while the situation was dealt with. The incident concluded with no weapons being located.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that an 18-year-old man from Sandown was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis and obstruction of an emergency worker. He was given a community resolution.
Island Echo is told that officers initially responded to the property at around 20:00 before leaving and returning later on. Then, at around 22:10, further officers were deployed in convoy from Newport, bringing the total number of units on scene to 11.
It is understood that the property has been occupied in recent weeks by unwanted squatters. A fully erected tent was removed from the property and carried down the street by Police.

well that was a crafty way of getting the police to evict the squatters!!
me: “Hello, police?,. there is a burgler in my house, can you send someone round?”
police: “Sorry sir, we have no one avaiable to come out”
me (5 minutes later): “hello, police?,,. it’s ok, I’ve shot them”
police: arrive 5 minutes later with 20 armed officers.. “where’s the gun?”
me: there is no gun!
police: “but you said you had shot the burgler!… you were lying ?”
me: “yes,.. but you said you had no one available!,.. so you started it”
