A residential street in Sandown has been cordoned off tonight (Sunday) amid a major response by Police, with Armed Response Officers taking up position outside an address ‘taken over by squatters’.
It was sometime before 21:30 that Police initially responded to Victoria Road in the town – thought to be as a result of reports received of an incident involving a firearm.
Then, at around 22:10, further officers were deployed in convoy from Newport, bringing the total number of units on scene to 11.
The area has been locked down as Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary deal with the ongoing situation.
Several people – many of whom are alleged to be squatting inside the target address – have been hauled from the property and detained.
A fully erected tent has been removed and carried down the street. A bicycle has also been seen.
Island Echo understands that a tenant was recently evicted from the property with squatters then quickly taking up residence.
UPDATE @ 23:49 – Local firm LockFit has been called out to secure the property by changing the locks.
The immediate incident has now drawn to a conclusion, with at least 1 person taken into custody.
Police have been approached for a statement with further information expected on Monday morning…
UPDATE MONDAY – Police have confirmed that no weapons were located and just 1 individual was arrested.

If this scum have no address on the island, no jobs and therefore no money to pay for accommodation, deport them back to the mainland. Keep the island free of their type!
