Police have concluded that an alleged sexual assault which was first said to have occurred in Cowes, then down a pathway in East Cowes, did not take place.
Officers have been investigating a report that a 13-year-old girl was inappropriately touched by a man, aged in his 20s, that she did not know.
Enquiries were initially focused on the Medina Road area of Cowes, near to the Floating Bridge. However, by Monday lunchtime the focus had shifted to the other side of the River Medina – in East Cowes.
A pathway between 2 residential streets was cordoned off as investigations continued.
Hampshire Constabulary has now said that the investigation has been concluded.
Following extensive enquiries in the area and obtaining further details from the alleged victim, the force does not currently believe that a criminal offence took place – the teen was not sexually assaulted.

IF she is lying she is creating a real risk to all those girls and ladies who are victims of such. With more and more of those who are often the perpetrators here now, and plenty more to follow as the island is covered in benefit boxes, the risk has never been greater for our vulnerable.
A stupid and selfish thing IF it is all made up.
Basically, attention seeking teenager with a skirt rolled up to her belly button wasted police time. Well done.
And why is what she may have been wearing relevant? – seems you have a bit of a concerning fixation on this aspect.
bob you need to stop with these comments we are all fed up with you
‘Vicky Pollard: Oh, my God! That is so unfair! This is like, well, sexual harassment! If you like, fancy me why don’t you just say so? No, but, yeah, but, no, but, yeah, but, no, but, yeah but I know because I’m not wasting police time…
I get that you have had a lot of hate/woke/sjw comments and in a way I suspect you knew it was coming and couldn’t care less because you were speaking for a lot of folk who have forgotten their own youth and now find some of the clothing a tad too revealing for mortal eyes. I remember the girls rolling up the waist bands to make a mini from a midi, then being told by the school to unwind them until 4.00 when the sound of skirts being shortened was only muffled by the hood of our duffel coats! As a kid I looked, as a young adult I looked, as a parent I averted my eyes when possible and tutted, now as a grandparent I pray that my granddaughters don’t do it, but know they probably will. Its been happening for generations, and each new batch try to take it a bit further, not helped by the industry that calls it ‘fashion’. Those who find it ‘strange’ that you notice and comment about things that many find uncomfortable seem to have their own issues as many many folk look and comment on the looks and dress of both/all sexes from Cradle to Grave, it’s the same the world over and no matter how many veiled insults are thrown, it will continue!
Kind of hear the point you’re trying make, so I’m going get the hate, but: as we are all aware, theres some truly twisted and nasty people in society that prey on young folk, and all other sectors.
That said it is all too easy to make a claim of inappropriate activity and in the interests of protecting the alleged victim it has to be, and rightly so, believed, until proven otherwise.
The problem is that sometimes this can be used, perhaps as a cry for help, or done out of spite / revenge, as it is well known, any suspects life is instantly and irrevocably destroyed.
The police know the truth here and we are only commenting on very limited detail.
Let’s just hope this is the correct analysis of the suspected offence.
More like the police put so much pressure on her that she retracted the claim as she wanted it all to stop. The police can be very intimidating.
Fred if you are correct, then lets hope her family deal with this in a way no court would consider.
You shouldn’t say this without facts, I have a daughter who knows the alleged and knows they lie about all sorts of things and she should be penalised for doing so
I would be more concerned as to why this kid is making it up and why she needs the attention tbh yes what she did is wrong but why
At last. One sensible comment asking why a kid would make it up. Clearly something wrong somewhere in her life.
I hope this girl realises she has wasted Police time in lying and has been spoken to and had it explained that what she did was so very wrong.
Egg on face with all those people believing 100% one side of the story. Classic case of mob mentality. This stupid girl should go and see women who has been abused/assaulted and the impact it has in their lives. Obviously we need a culture that people have the confidence to come forward and report abuse of any kind. I’ll make this clear Paedophiles and rapists when 100% proof of their guilt should receive the death penalty. There must be consequences if people do lie/make things up, not just a slap on the wrist.
i knew there was something not right with this. silly girl!
Hard to believe a 13 year old doesn’t know when stating she has been sexually assaulted actually means, unless it was parent pressure and them assuming. There is enough on media connections, and I would be surprised if she doesn’t own an electronic device such as a laptop, notepad, mobile phone etc. If she was doing it for attention then the parents need to seek more help for her.
Given all the comments in the previous articles when this story broke it’s clear why other news outlets stop comments on articles when an allegation such as this is made or if and when it goes to Court.
