After a number of years of dedicated service, Chef Steve Harris has decided to step away from the business to pursue new opportunities.
The White Lion has, in my opinion, gone backwards in the last couple of years since becoming a “Gastro Pub”.It should be sticking to good pub grub. Villagers in Niton don’t want expensive posh food; an evening out with friends and family shouldn’t break the bank. The traditional passing trade of holidaymakers, especially bike riders and now the visitors to Blackgang are looking for good traditional food. Mark look across the road in Niton to the Post Office and the Cafe that has opened this year, both expanding their services and then ask yourself why.
Gastro Pub ? Gastroenterology – does their over, well over,priced food give you gas (wind). To feed four you need a bank loan and certainly not for locals. White Horse in Whitwell better food at half price.

I think the fact there doing 30 for lunch and 50 for dinner 5 days a week would show how narrow minded you are Doug.
There lunch menu is as cheap as any pub in the local area.
Doug, if you cant afford it there’s a drive through in Newport and shanklin for people like you.

Looking at their menus online just now,…white lion battered haddock £10.50, white horse battered cod £10.00.

What an unbelievably rude and out of date comment. I would like you to find a better value for money cost to quality anywhere on the island.

Come on Doug, have you ever been to the white lion!? I eat there at least once a week because you know you’re going to get quality food at a very reasonable price.
Why would they want to do the same offerings as the cafe/post office, then the village would have no variety. As it is, Niton has three thriving businesses and a lot to offer food wise.
I, like Brenda have just compared their lunch menu online with the other pubs you mentioned. The price are almost identical some were even cheaper.
To put a negative comment on a post when they are celebrating something so positive says a lot about your character Doug!
