The Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance has landed at Sandown Airport tonight (Wednesday) in response to a medical emergency.
2 ambulance crews from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are airside at Sandown, where the yellow helicopter touched down at just gone 21:15.
It’s understood a male has suffered a head injury. However, it has been determined that the injuries sustained are not serious enough to warrant a flight to Southampton’s Major Trauma Centre.
The casualty is to be taken by land ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.
The air ambulance is preparing to depart from the airport and return to Dorset, bringing the incident to a close.
UPDATE @ 21:57 – The air ambulance has now departed from Sandown, with the casualty already en-route to St Mary’s.
Have to use a helicopter because we’re cut of from the mainland by people who moved here and want to force the island back into the 70’s. Time for a fixed link. Then this would not be needed.
