Sophie’s Saturday Night Suppers, an initiative that sees fresh pizzas delivered to parents, children and staff on children’s wards, has arrived at St Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight thanks to an Island family’s discovery and support.
Sophie’s Legacy has been delivering pizzas to Portsmouth’s Queen Alexandra Hospital every Saturday night since May 2022, greatly appreciated by those staying or working on the NICU, Starfish, Shipwreck, CAU and children’s A&E wards.
Now, the weekly pizza nights have been brought to the Isle of Wight on a regular basis thanks to the Keywood family, who recently discovered more about Sophie’s Legacy whilst staying at the QA.
Ramona was airlifted from St Mary’s Hospital directly to the helipad in Portsmouth by the Coastguard helicopter when she went into early labour back in August.
It was during their prolonged stay on the mainland that Ramona and her partner, John, smelt a waft of fresh pizzas. The story of the supper nights soon followed and this got the pair thinking about what a great boost it would be for those at St Mary’s on this side of the Solent.
So, pledging their support through their business, Ace Waste, the 1st regular Sophie’s Saturday Night Supper was held last Saturday (23rd September). 10 delicious pizzas from Artista Pizza in Carisbrooke were delivered to the children’s ward and Special Baby Care Unit where parents, staff and children were able to enjoy a bit of much-needed downtime.
The Carisbrooke-based business will be sponsoring this coming Saturday’s event, but additional Island businesses are being sought to sponsor future weeks to help keep the initiative going.

The Saturday Night Suppers sit alongside the already-established Sophie’s Snack Box, which provides snacks and toiletries for those staying on the children’s wards.

If Italian’s live longer than UK, are less obese and less mental health then Pizza can’t be that unhealthy. Hopefully other companies will join in or even Pizza houses themselves from time to time.
