Efforts to locate Freshwater man Alan Souter, who has been missing since Monday, have been ramped up with a new image of Alan on the bus on the day he went missing, released. As first reported by Island Echo, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary issued an appeal for the missing 62-year-old this morning, with WightSAR – the Island’s voluntary search and rescue team – and Coastguard Rescue Teams from The Needles and Ventnor called in to support search efforts. Those on the ground focused their efforts on the Norton Green area of the West Wight – believed to be near Alan’s home – paying particular attention to the coastal areas near Colwell Bay and Fort Albert. Visibility in the area was poor due to very thick fog, so the help of Yarmouth RNLI was also requested.
Images have now been released of Alan on the Route 7 Southern Vectis bus which he boarded at around 16:15 on Monday (8th April). Island Echo understands that Alan then headed into Freshwater to complete his weekly shop. The 62-year-old was last seen wearing a dark blue and dark green coat, with a purple shirt underneath. Officers are seeking anyone who was on the same bus as Alan or anyone at all who may have information as to his whereabouts. A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, has said:
“If anyone has any information about Alan’s whereabouts or his recent movements, please call 999 quoting reference 44240150389.”
Although WightSAR stood down from the search as of 17:35, HM Coastguard remains in attendance at Tennyson Down this evening. Freshwater Independent Lifeboat is also understood to have launched.
