A new gate has been officially unveiled at Copse Mead Nature Reserve in Lake, with over 90 sheep returning to graze the land as part of seasonal land management efforts.
Lake Parish Council Chair, Councillor Paul Brading, led the unveiling and welcomed the sheep back to the site, which is shared with local residents and wildlife including badgers and foxes. The sheep will remain on the land before it is flailed later in the year.
Cllr Brading has thanked Danny Horne of Natural Enterprise for helping to make the improvements possible, along with shepherd Ross Simpson for supplying the sheep.
Paul Brading has said:
“Thanks to all involved in the projects, balancing continued public access, and the natural environment, with a badger and foxes also resident in the mead; with butterflies to revisit in the spring.”
Danny Horne added:
“It’s really good use of a small site, and provides better protection for the sheep, with local residents appreciating the seasonal visitors.”
Copse Mead continues to be an important green space in the parish, offering both ecological value and recreational access for the local community.

Glad to see it’s a “re cycled” gate.
