Young people from across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are the targets of a new campaign to highlight the truth about knife carrying and to encourage reporting of crime 100% anonymously.
Fearless, the youth service of the charity Crimestoppers, launched the campaign this week, to highlight facts about knife crime, such as carrying a knife increases your chances of being hurt and leading to 5 years in prison, even if it isn’t used.
In a bid to reduce knife crime in the county, young people and the wider community are being informed about knife crime and encouraged to anonymously report people who carry knives to the charity.
Fearless gives young people an option of staying 100% anonymous when speaking up about crime.
A free training session will take place online for professionals working with young people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, to learn more about the Fearless anonymous reporting service and how to speak to young people about barriers to reporting crime.
The session will cover the difference between ‘snitching’ and reporting and the Bystander Approach and what it means to be an ‘active bystander’, which describes choosing to take appropriate action when you know that behaviour is not acceptable.

Steady on now. I’ve had a chat with Donna and Scott and we’re all right behind this. In fact we were just saying so over a G and T at the club yesterday afternoon. It doesn’t do our votes any good when the proles continue to be violent towards each other.
As the delights of enrichment have made such crime an ever-day event in our capital, with only the deaths of the young now being reported and never the ‘type’ who are involved then clearly our own dim, have followed suit.
They KNOW they will never be jailed, they know just what to say, and only the most naive of us will think that this will make any difference.
Adults now need to carry weapons to protect themselves from the growing street trash that doesn’t just ‘appear’ when turning 16, it is made by too many people being ‘paid’ to have children they don’t love, just want the easy life of free rent, c.tax, no work and plenty of handouts. FACT
The truth is that there are so many island youngsters carrying knives and knife crime has rocketed over recent years.
If you get caught with a knife the penalties are punitive. You might get 5 years but that never happens. Most likely a slap on the wrist and rehabilitation to make you a better citizen.
Carrying a knive should be an instant 5 year stint with the possibility of 10 years behind bars. A proper deterrent!
