EXCLUSIVE: Premier Inn, one of the countries leading hotel chains, is set to open a new hotel in Lake on the outskirts of Sandown, Island Echo can exclusively reveal.
Work is underway on a planning application to bring a new 81-bedroom hotel to Merrie Gardens off of the A3056 Newport Road behind the recently developed Marston’s pub and close by to the Morrison’s supermarket, which is due for expansion.
Although in the early stages, should planning permission be granted, it is hoped the hotel will open as early as Summer 2015 and will create 24 new jobs for the Island.
The new development, which will be the company’s second hotel on the Isle of Wight, will help to generate additional business activity in the local area as customers eat and drink locally and make use of facilities in the nearby towns of Sandown and Shanklin.
The hotel will boast an additional 13 bedrooms compared to the existing Premier Inn at Seaclose in Newport.
A spokesperson for Whitbread Hotels & Restaurants has told Island Echo:
“We are working on a planning application for Newport Road in Lake and would welcome the opportunity to bring new investment, jobs and facilities to the town.
“It’s early in the planning process but we hope we can work with everyone with an interest in the proposals to develop the best scheme and bring a new Premier Inn to Lake in the near future.”
