The Isle of Wight’s Kimberley Murray started her Skeleton World Cup season on Saturday with a mixed result at Lake Placid, USA.
Despite securing a 12th fastest push time on the first run, Kim finished 22nd overall. Unfortunately, only the top 20 sleds qualify for a second run so the former Long Jump athlete’s event was cut short.
Lake Placid isn’t a track that Kim is all that familiar with having last raced there in 2016, but she improved on both her start and finish time. She will be racing there again this coming Friday.
Speaking about her season opener, Kim says:
“My aim coming into the race was to finish in the top 16 so I was disappointed to fall short of this. Having had a disrupted and limited pre-season due to family illness and my Grandad passing away I knew it was a big ask on a track I last visited in 2016. However, we have the opportunity to race again in Lake Placid this Friday (13th December) so I am excited to get another six training runs in, gel with the track a little more and try to better my performance”.
