Priory School welcomed Mr Joe Robertson, the Conservative MP for Isle of Wight East, to school last week (Friday 30th January).
He has been an MP for the Island since 4th July 2024 and sits on numerous Parliamentary Committees, including health and social care and public transport.
He addressed pupils in Years 9–11 and spoke about his personal interest and career in politics, as well as several Island issues, including education, housing, the economy and transport.
Mr Robertson also commented on MPs defecting to other parties, and his view that this should automatically trigger a by-election in affected constituencies.
The pupils asked many excellent questions on topics, such the desirability of a fixed link, the need for more affordable homes, disappointing public examination results in Island schools, better roads and railways, and the logic of splitting the Island into 2 constituencies.
Mr Robertson engaged with the boys and girls with honesty and humility, and impressed everyone with his answers and range of parliamentary knowledge.
Priory School plans to invite Mr Richard Quigley, the Labour MP for Isle of Wight West, to the school for a similar event and to hear the Labour Government’s view on these issues.

I wonder if Joe mentioned Davos eg The W.E.F
World Economic Forum.
Also the impact Civil Servants have running Parliament.
Bet he forgot to mention the important issues.
I lost interest when the article mentioned the fixed link. That’s been regurgitated for decades but suppose that way he can just waffle on without any preparation.
