The main road through Wroxall – 1 of just 2 roads in and out of Ventnor at present – has re-opened this afternoon (Tuesday) following emergency gas works in the area.
St John’s Road was closed between Whiteley Bank Roundabout and The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary at 09:30 yesterday morning, with SGN engineers moving in to repair a gas leak.
Since then, all motorists have had to travel via Whitwell to access Ventnor and Wroxall – a lengthy diversion. This forced a one-way system to be implemented between Godshill and Wroxall, creating an even bigger diversion, via Niton, for those leaving Wroxall/Ventnor.
This is due to the ongoing closure of Leeson Road so that 3x85m boreholes can be drilled into the ground following last December’s landslip.
Following swift action by SGN, the repair has been completed and the road reinstated. St John’s Road re-opened at 16:00 this afternoon.
