A motorcyclist has been conveyed to hospital after coming off his machine as a result of a collision with a car in Shanklin this afternoon (Sunday).
The incident has occurred on the S bends at Big Mead, on the main road between Shanklin and Ventnor.
The motorcyclist is understood to have collided with the front driver’s side of a Vauxhall Astra, resulting in the bike leaving the carriageway and coming to a rest in the Big Mead car park.
Police are now awaiting recovery of the motorcycle.
The road remains open in both directions with no delays.

Hope rider is well, and all. Involved
Hope the rider is not to badly hurt
Fred should be along any minute with his biking expertise…lol…blacks illegal isnt it Fred, and that exhaust! well he deserved it eh…
I’ve been riding and building bike for 40 years mate, so I am an expert. The number plate is too small, not legal. The exhaust is missing the cat (very easy to see in the photo), bikes of that age have to have one. It’s been deleted. So yes, the bike IS illegal.
If a driver in a car has had a drink then the law ALWAYS considers any accident the fault of that driver, so does the same apply for an accident where one of the vehicles is illegal? Doubt it. Not fashionable enough.
Great you know everything glad you can comment
Cats are in the headers on them
yes your wel known ?????? aftermarket exhausts are insurable and totally legal..but you’d know this after all them bikes you build..pmsl
@Fred ive been alive for 40 years….. doesnt make me an expert on life.
Regardless of weather it is legal or not (he may not be awere – needs your 40 years expertise) i hope rider ok
How can you possibly tell what size the number plate is from that angle of picture? Or what year of make the bike is for that matter. You are so full of shit.
Why am I not surprised but not a very good expert are you? It is not a legal requirement for a motorcycle to have a catalytic converter (emissions are not tested on a motorcycle MOT) so therefore it CANNOT be illegal on that basis, and in terms of number plates the size of the plate is irrelevant it is about the size and spacing of the letters and numbers on the plate, and since you cant actually see the plate there is no way of knowing if it is actually illegal.
I accidentally posted my comment under the wrong post – should be a reply to “fred”
i just got fed up after the comments about that poor lad that hit a wall..this guy is clueless
Who cut the corner? Hope the driver of the car is ok.
More idiot car drivers that can’t keep on the right side of the road will be along soon…
Cars are so big now they cant keep to their side of the road
Isle of Wight drivers are terrible at sticking to their own side of the road when driving around bends (I’m an Islander..since about 6yrs old, a long, loooong, long time ago)! I’m not making any judgement about what caused the accident, it’s just an observation.
Why do you presume it’s the car driver at fault?
Read the report again. Sounds like the bike has cut the S bend corner and clipped the front drivers side of the car.
The car driver cut the S bend not the bike…
Mostly speeding bikes that treat s-bends like a race track chicane mate. Just letting you know.
More speeding cars that treat s bends like a race track and cut corners just letting you know
You’re just a hopeless cause. You have no idea what happened, and yet here you are again with your clueless infantile drivel. Grow up!
Hope all involved OK .
I know the bike rider well and he’s a good carful biker
Get the facts before you condemn both car driver and biker
Sorry, but obviously not as good as you say Stephen.
More bad driving on the IW
