A motorcyclist has been injured in a crash on Briddlesford Road near Downend this afternoon (Sunday).

Police and paramedics were called to the scene on the S-bend near Lynnbottom Tip sometime around 16:00.

Recovery of the motorcycle is taking place. The road remains open in both directions.

UPDATE MONDAY – The motorcyclist at the centre of yesterday’s incident – who doesn’t wish to be named – has praised the work of the emergency services, members of the public and the off-duty medical staff who assisted him at the roadside.

The gentleman was travelling towards Wootton from Downend when he was struck by an open emergency exit door on a coach. He ended up in the hedges lining the carriageway.

Now recovering at home with minor injuries, the motorcyclist has expressed his praise to all involved in his care including the staff at St Mary’s Hospital.

Thank goodness the motorcyclist survived with only minor injuries. My concern is why the emergency door on the coach was open in the first place. Were people on board the coach, or was it empty? Either way, I thought modern coaches warned the driver if the emergency door was opened whilst travelling – or was this the distraction that caused the coach to crash into the van?
