A motorcyclist has died following a fatal collision on Whiterails Road near Wootton yesterday evening (Thursday).
Emergency services were mobilised to the scene of the crash between Wootton Business Park and Butterfly World at 18:40 when reports were received of a collision between a car and a motorcyclist.
Despite the best effort of medics, including doctors from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, as well as a bus driver who commenced CPR, the motorcyclist could not be saved. Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Collision investigators spent last night piecing together the events leading up to the collision and the collision itself in a bid to forensically understand what caused the fatal crash.
2 fire appliances, 3 ambulances, senior officers and the air ambulance were all deployed to the incident, which saw the road closed for over 6 hours.
Whiterails Road has now been re-opened in both directions.
