MOTORCYCLIST DIES 4 WEEKS AFTER DOWNS COLLISION

thedownsmotorcycleseriouscollisionairambulance10A motorcyclist has died 4 weeks after being involved in a collision with a car on The Downs near to Knighton.

Police are today (Monday) renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward following the death of 50 year-old Mark Ward, who has died as a result of injuries he was left with following the serious collision on Saturday 14th March.

Mark Ward, from Ryde, was riding his Honda motorcycle west across The Downs when he moved to overtake a car, colliding head on with a Mazda2 car close to Knighton Shute.

As previously reported by Island Echo, Mr Ward was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Paying tribute to her husband, Mark’s wife Julia has said:

“Mark was a keen motorcyclist and loving husband. He sadly passed away following a tragic accident on 14 March on the Downs road. He was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital, but two weeks later complications meant his health deteriorated.

“He will be greatly missed by myself, the whole family, and his many friends on the Isle of Wight.”
