A motorcyclist has been airlifted to Southampton by the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance following a crash between Godshill and Whitwell last night (Thursday).
Emergency services were called to Whitwell Road, near the junction with Meryl Lane, shortly before 21:30.
However, it wasn’t until 2 hours later that the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance landed at the scene.
It’s understood that the crash may have involved a tractor.
The injured rider was flown directly to Southampton General Hospital at 00:50, landing at the mainland hospital just 10 minutes later – more than 2-and-a-half hours after the collision occurred.
The road remained closed for several hours but has since reopened.
UPDATE – Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed it is investigating a collision between a motorcycle and a tractor.
It’s said that a woman in her 20s – the motorcyclist – was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Investigations continue. No arrests have been made.

I do Hope he will be ok, I hope too he was wearing protective clothing which so many motor cyclists in this hot weather are not. Speedy recovery ….
Despite this heat, I always wear full armoured clothing. It’s stupid not to.
It was in fact a female in her 20’s. Hope she is ok.
When it was first reported it did not say, stupidly I assumed it was a man ..apologies, I hope she makes a full recovery.
IF the young person was wearing a suit of armour against a speeding huge trailer tushing tractor, then sadly it is doubtful if it would have helped much.
But you are right full protection saves lives and pain and injury, but these massive tractors feeding the bio mass ‘green con’ digester at Arreton are very dangerous drivers, as has been mentioned on here several times before.
Bad enough, but the fact that crops are grown purely for it, and so are not growing food products, means we have to import more food stuff, thus cancelling out any doubtful gain on the green front anyway.
Hope she is able to make a full recovery
No dealt on their way home from a blast along the military road. I live on the main road and see bikes race past my property every evening this time of year. THINK BIKE, THINK SPEEDING IDIOT.
*doubt
Just bikes? Think you might have chosen the wrong place to live.If you were from the island i ‘doubt’ you would have chosen that location.
Called bikers idiots on a story relating to a badly injured biker reveals what kind of person you are
Responsible, sensible drivers know how to safely drive the island’s roads. Let’s be honest, muppet can drive fast, but not everyone is a safe driver. The island’s roads are not meant to be driven fast. Country lanes have many hazards waiting around that blind bend which many don’t even consider. Like a tractor!
Right, so stop having a rush to the head, think of your families and slow down. It’s a small Island, what’s the hurry, you’re not going anywhere except the cemetery if you don’t take it easy.
I wish i knew who you are?
You are all attacking him but what he says is true. They race on the roads and they don’t even know the roads . When are people going to learn .
Yes all attacking him & it was a 20 year old female! Does no one read the story?
THINK NASHER, THINK MINDLESS MORON
Guarantee I’m a better motorcyclist than you are a driver. THINK NASHER, THINK PRICK.
Yep,30mph past my house and some, only some can be doing 70/80 mph with no consideration for others. But we don’t know what took place here it was getting dark too. Hopefully she will be on mend soon, it’s happened don’t matter who’s fault as won’t change her injuries we just pray she will be ok.
Mr selfish happy, all about you
That road, like many others is driven/riden way too fast. It’s a lovely road to drive but why are people using island roads like a bloody racetrack?
SLOW DOWN. Speed kills. It’s getting to stage where accidents are happening way too frequently. You can hardly not see a tractor can you? Not unless your absolutely raggin it!!
He is fighting for his life after being airlifted to hospital and people on here have already decided without any proof whatsoever that he / she was speeding
A great percentage of accidents are drivers not seeing bikes and pulling out
How about forgetting petty prejudice and wishing them a speedy recovery like any normal human would?
Totally agree with you.
Well said, too many know it alls on here who spit out their hate without knowing a thing about what happened. Hope the rider recovers.
Preaching and judging Is the most common way that people can cover themselves in glory unfortunately hence why you see so much of it..
Well said John
lets hope she makes a full recovery
Que the comments from the sanctimonious w!@#$%^s who were not there, and judge by ‘islander group think’
Take a step back and look at your comments to see the light they shed upon YOU!
That guy or girl is in a bad way, think about it.
Wishing the rider all the very best from a fellow biker.
I trust that the rider makes a recovery. Don’t assume anything and let the authorities do their investigation.
It’s amazing how many people know all about what happened. Without any actual knowledge of how or why. Your all just making assumptions. That’s someone’s dad, brother, son, grandad. How do you know he didn’t have a medical episode or mechanical issues? The lot of you should take a look the mirror and have a word. Absolute pond life with not a single brain cell.
The fact that it took 2.5 hours to get this chap to hospital tells me he is probably in a very bad way indeed and needed a lot of stabilisation before he could be moved. Hope he makes it, from a fellow biker
Bikers have brilliant vision, no door pillars in the way, and so should also be clever enough to think and see TRACTORS, they are slow, and often pulling a trailer. There are lots of farms here. I drive both a car, van and a motorcycle ( not all at same time ) my eyes are always looking for obstacles, and especially TRACTORS. They do not bend !
I used to enjoy driving on this Island, but now it does not seem like the Island anymore, more a mix of Silverstone and Brands Hatch !! Too many cutting corners and speeding, 60 mph is plenty, and ALWAYS look far ahead as possible, see what’s occurring further up the road ! Stop tailgating.
Pretty stupid comments considering you claim to ride a motorcycle. I would guess you have never been on one in your life, otherwise you would know better.
Sorry I have been riding since I was 13 years old. Then at 16 passed my test and been riding daily ever since. I have witnessed many stupid motorcyclists, and also stupid car drivers ..I have also been an HGV driver and a PSV driver… No accidents with other vehicles caused by me, or where I was at fault ever !!
Not like you… !! I have been riding ( and driving ) for over 40 years !! I have also driven in other countries too.. ( on wrong side of road ) … so you can eat your words Paul plus those that gave you thumbs up. LEARN TO DRIVE AND RIDE… do not guess.
Hark at Peter Perfect!
Please tell us more with this fascinating insight you have..
Totally agree with you . It’s no good pussyfooting around. The truth hurts . No-one ever seems to learn
Many tractors are not slow, have you ever been behind one
I don’t know what happened, but the tractors over here are often driven recklessly and at speed.
Your right, but I find it odd why some idiots vote down when posting the truth….I think they must be special needs…
So are the cars ,buses vans, lorries, motorcycles. Everyone needs to show a bit more respect for each other and the roads . It really is chaos on the roads .
Best wishes to the bike rider hope they make a full recovery
So tractors turn there trailers over, now they’ve started to target bike rider’s….more will be along soon…
Best wishes for the motorcyclist. Hope she makes a full recovery:)
Don’t know why your all saying “him & he’s ” as actual report states “woman motorcyclist her 20’s”. Think you should all read the report properly before posting things.
If you had a brain you would be dangerous. Most of the comment were written BEFORE IE updated the story to confirm the sex.
Many comments were left before the article was updated with the news that it was a young woman rider.
Motorcyclist in HER 20s not a man. Read the headline.
Use your brain. Oh, since you dont have one……..The comments were written BEFORE IE updated the story to confirm the identity….
Read the story it was a she.
2 hrs ???? That is shocking they could of died in that time
Hope the woman motorcyclist makes a speedy recovery from her serious injuries.
it was a woman in her twenties so not a boy racer and on a 125cc
Hope she’s OK and makes a full recovery
The gender here is not of importance, what is, is why this accident happened.
We all know motor bikes can be dangerous, we all know the huge bio mass tractors are driven by careless selfish idiots.
So, the jury is out, and debate is healthy, but to blame YET is not.
We all no doubt wish the poor girl a speedy and full recovery, THAT is a given, no matter who is to blame if anyone.
Lots are commenting? It was a young girl in her 20’s we all hope and pray that she is ok. Who gives a shit right now whose fault it was, she’s not actually in a good way and that right now is more important than lots of negative comments.
Sending her love and hoping she makes a speedy recovery XX
Certainly I do feel sorry for the woman. Contact with a tractor is like a brick wall.
Hope they get better, probably going to fast…..
