Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat is assisting a 58ft motor cruiser that has struck the infamous Bembridge Ledge at a speed of almost 20 knots this evening (Sunday).

Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) shortly after 17:00 following reports that the vessel ‘Amera’ had run aground.
Thankfully, the lifeboat has been able to pull the luxury boat clear of the rocky ledge, but damage has been sustained as a result of the impact.
The casualty vessel is now being towed to the safety of Bembridge Harbour to allow for a full inspection to take place.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team are meeting with Amera and her 4 crew at the harbour pontoons.
Amera departed from Swanwick Marina on the River Hamble at around 15:30 this afternoon before colliding with the Ledge at 16:50.
No one is thought to have been injured.

Funny how you can just buy a boat or even a ship in this country and just go, but you need a licence for a radio that will save your life.
Red Funnel car ferry, Cowes – Southhampton ran aground and collided with other boats in two separate occasions, they are staffed with competent crews we are told……..seems like this stuff happens whatever qualifications crews have?
No drink & sail law either
Funny how you can be drunk or drugged and nothing is checked.
Stick to the inflatable on the blunt end !
It’s also “funny “ how a high amount of car drivers have the most stupidest of accidents but amazingly are licensed to drive.
H.M. Submarine Alliance, 1385 Tons, Aground on Bembridge Ledge, Isle of Wight on 12th January 1968
do these boats not have radar or eco sounders to tell them how deep the water is or is it just stupidity on the sailers part
