2 Coastguard Rescue Teams have been called to Yaverland Beach in Sandown this evening (Tuesday) for the second missing persons incident of the day.
Officers from Bembridge CRT and Ventnor CRT are on scene at Yaverland car park after being alerted to the news that 1 – possibly 2 – people have gone missing near Culver Down.
Thankfully, in the past few minutes the incident has been brought to a close with the safe return of all involved – a child and his father.
Island Echo understands that Bembridge RNLI have been made aware of the situation, but have been stood down prior to launch.
It’s the second such incident today following the deployment of HM Coastguard and Ryde Inshore Rescue to Appley in Ryde earlier on when 2 children were reported missing.
Coastguard officers are reminding Islanders to pay particular attention to children when at the coast. If anyone is believed lost or missing on the coast or at sea then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard – never delay a call.
