A minor rear-end shunt involving a classic Mini is resulting in a diversion through the bus station for motorists in Ryde this lunchtime (Tuesday).
It was shortly before 13:00 that the turquoise-coloured Mini crashed into the rear of a white Ford Focus on the Esplanade, prompting a Police response.
The female driver of the Mini is now complaining of neck pain as a result of the minor come to, which has caused minor vehicle damage.
With the vehicles unable to be moved and the road blocked, all traffic is currently being diverted via the bus lane at Ryde Interchange.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service arrived on scene at 13:14 with paramedics now checking over the driver to assess the next steps.
Fluids – thought to be coolant from the radiator – have been spilt onto the carriageway.
UPDATE @ 15:20 – Police have confirmed that the driver of the white Ford Focus, a 40-year-old woman from Ryde, has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
She has been taken into custody for blood tests to be taken.
The incident has now been cleared.
The poor little mini. It actually looks sad. I hope someone saves that little car.
Driving to close to the vehicle on front.
and so presumably at fault…
and yet, its the driver of the car she hit, who got arrested.
(just go to show that you shouldn’t drink or drug drive,.. ‘cos even if you do nothing wrong driving wise, some other person can cause you to get nicked)
Surely, if the driver of the mini drove into the back of the other car, she should also get nicked for careless driving… Unless, of course, the white car reversed into her…
She would be reported for the offence of careless and not nicked but yes you are right in saying, that unless the focus reversed into her and that is where witnesses to the RTC come in.
Seems to be an island trait!
Neck pain…more classic then the car itself.
The Oscar’s are over.
Not according to the mini actor
As far as I know I think anyone who drives into the rear of a vehicle in front is classed as “at fault” by the insurers. Does that still apply if the person in front is arrested and charged with drug driving?
That would totally depend on whether the driver is charged then it would still be for the insurers to fight it out who is/was at fault.
It’s normally the person behind at fault, but does the fact the the driver of the front vehicle being arrested for drug driving change the outcome?
From the article yes. But legally in reality no.
The Interchange ruined the look of Ryde.
I wish people would stop breaking the law and
turning into the NO Right Turn into George Street
Decent Camera’s would catch the lawbreakers,
very frustrating.
Hope that isn’t Shirleys mini. She’s had it years
