Firefighters in the West Wight worked to fully extinguish and damp down a fire that broke out on the exterior of a shop in Totland during the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
2 appliances from Freshwater and Yarmouth, as well as the Aerial Ladder Platform from Newport, were mobilised to Costcutter on Granville Road at just gone midnight.
Reports had been received by the control room that a fire had broken out on the side of the shop.
It has been confirmed by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service that the fire involved rubbish left on the ground down the side of the property. Flames licked up the outside of the building, causing damage to shop signage and a window frame on the 1st floor.
Although the fire was out upon the arrival of crews, firefighters dampened down the area using hose reels before ventilating the property to clear lingering smoke. They also checked for any hotspots in the loft space.
The stop message was relayed at 01:25 with crews leaving the scene shortly afterwards.
