As of 05:00 tomorrow (Wednesday), McDonald’s throughout the country, including the Isle of Wight, will be ‘takeaway only’ restaurants.
In a statement released by the food chain this evening (Tuesday) all McDonald restaurants around the country are closing seating areas until further notice.
This is to ensure the wellbeing of their employees and customers visit the fast-food chains, including Ryde and Newport.
The temporary change means that you will only be able to takeaway food, you can still order inside as normal, but have to remove your food and eat elsewhere.
Ryde’s DriveThru also remains open but will be contact-free, with no physical contact between customers, employees and couriers wherever possible.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s has said:
“In light of recent updates from UK and Irish governments, we are temporarily changing our operations to ensure the wellbeing of our employees and customers.
“From 5am on Wednesday 18th March, all restaurants will close seating areas and temporarily move to being takeaway, Drive Thru and McDelivery only.
“With immediate effect, all of our Drive Thrus and all McDelivery orders via Uber Eats and Just Eat, will be contact-free, with no physical contact between customers, employees and couriers wherever possible.
“In these unprecedented times, our restaurants will continue to remain open for as long as it is safe to do so.
“Thank you once again for all your support in keeping one another safe.”
The McDonald’s famous Monopoly promotion will also be postponed until later in the year until they can be confident that you can win, claim and redeem the prizes available.

Yay, more McDonald’s litter in the street then!
Not necessarily, most people actually ‘eat it’, or do you mean the containers?
A benefit of Coronavirus – Should help the obesity rate with less junk food eaten
It would be sensible to make them take away only but allowing you to enter the restaurant to make your order destroys the whole concept.
Especially if customers are still using their touch screen ordering system.
