East Cowes man Jason Holbrook, who was caught masturbating in his van just metres from a primary school in Newport last April, has been handed a 12-month community order.
Holbrook, 51, of St James’ Close, previously admitted act of outraging public decency back in November 2024. On that occasion, the case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be compiled.
Crown prosecutor Lauren McConnell told the court that on 29th April this year, a resident of a property on Elm Grove in Newport saw their attention drawn to a Ford Transit van parked outside their property.
A few hours later, in broad daylight, the same person noticed a man in the driver’s seat of the van masturbating with his right hand. The court heard how Holbrook had placed a towel over the passenger side window in an attempt to complete the lewd act undetected. However, the homeowner could still see him through a gap in the window and windscreen.
In a shocked and upset state, the homeowner called her partner who went to the van and confronted Holbrook about his actions.
Mrs McConnell explained to the court that Holbrook then ripped the towel from the window and removed his phone from the steering wheel just before a ‘young male’ walked past.
Holbrook’s attempt at ‘relief’ took place in close proximity to Nine Acres Primary School.
Defending, Oscar Vincent told the court that Holbrook was under significant family stress at the time of the incident and that he has been honest and open with his family who still support him. Mr Vincent also said that Holbrook had made assurances that his behaviour was never going to be repeated.
Magistrates handed the 51-year-old a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work attached. Holbrook was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 surcharge fee.
