Boat users setting off from Cowes this weekend are being urged to check their fuel tanks before departure, as Cowes Harbour Commission (CHC) and Lallows confirm a shortage of marine fuels.
The shortage, which has been affecting all suppliers, stems from challenges in sourcing fuel and transporting it to the Isle of Wight. Over the past week, this has resulted in intermittent availability of both diesel and petrol, with some scheduled deliveries cancelled at short notice.
This has been evident at the pumps for road users too, with Tesco Ryde running out of both petrol and diesel on separate days.
CHC and Lallows say they are working closely with suppliers to secure deliveries and are exploring alternative supply options to improve resilience and reduce the risk of future disruption.
CHC has confirmed that a delivery of diesel arrived today and the CHC fuel berth will be open for diesel sales from this afternoon. Lallows also has diesel currently available.
Petrol remains in short supply. CHC expects a delivery of 8,000 litres on Monday morning (18th August) from a 15,000-litre order, with the balance to follow as soon as possible. Lallows is also expecting a petrol delivery on Monday.
Both organisations say they recognise the importance of uninterrupted fuel supply, particularly during the busy summer boating season, and will continue to provide regular updates.

What no beer
To be expected following the closure of the fuel berth at Kingston. Now the sole route is via our good and reliable friends Red Funnel (Wightlink won’t carry it).
Short-sighted or what?
