A nationwide operations manager now faces losing his job as a result of being banned from the roads after failing to provide.
Diego Mendoza, 58, of Grove Green Road in Waltham Forest, London appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday accused of failing to provide having been suspected of drink driving – a charge he pleaded guilty to.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that at 23:30 on 11th June a Police Constable was travelling along Horsebridge Hill, between Newport and Cowes, when he came across a queue of traffic travelling at around 15-20mph. It soon became clear to the officer that the lead car was swerving all over the road and touching the brakes.
Mendoza – who was carrying an adult female passenger – was stopped and provided a positive roadside breath test. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Ms Smout explained to the court that Mendoza then had 5 attempts at giving samples on the evidential breathalyser, successfully providing just 1 sample. She described it as a deliberate refusal to provide 2.
Defending, Amy Hosell said that her client was on the Isle of Wight for work, accompanied by his wife. They had gone out for food and drink when his wife became ill with stomach cramps. It was explained to the court that Mendoza took to the wheel in a bid to find a pharmacy and was driving slowly as he didn’t know the area.
Miss Hosell made a point of saying that Mendoza had held a driver’s licence for 41 years and would lose his job as a result of losing his licence, which would then have an impact on his daughter studying overseas.
Magistrates handed Diego Mendoza a 17-month driving ban with a requirement to complete 120 hours of unpaid work.

Oh dear what a pity never mind ! ! There is NO excuse for drink driving,in my opinion he should loose his license for life.
Never made a bad decision? I was foolish enough to get behind the wheel under the influence as a teenager. There were circumstances but don’t use these as an excuse. I take responsibility for my mistake. Thankfully no one was hurt. I was fined, banned, and sent on an awareness course. The ban meant i had to move from my family home to continue working. I was rightfully penalised for my bad decision. I’m proud to say that i learnt my lesson and I’m a safer driver because of it. Safer perhaps than someone who is ignorant enough to think a lifetime ban would result in law abiding behaviour. Thank goodness forums such as this weren’t around then. This man is going to be facing enough punishment without a public ”stoning” from an ignoramus like you.
This dude was 58 not an imbecillic teeanger like you. No excuses. He deserves to lose his job/income/licence. Drink driving KILLS – I have personal experience of this when my then girlfriends best friend was hit by a drink driver and dragged, underneath the car in unimaginable agony, for a half mile before he abandoned the car and ran away leaving her to die. Like this moron he also made various BS excuses to avoid punishment, thankfully not successful.

Excuses excuses excuses??
A driving ban means he won’t be going nationwide any more.
He could join Lloyds and ride a horse
Trying to find a Pharmacy open at that time at night yea of course he was
The usual hard luck story could have killed any of us !
The usual selection of total BS excuses/lies in an attempt to weasel out of his responsibilities/liability. I sincerely hope he does lose his job/income. What a loser.
