A man who lost his place at a halfway house after he damaged the premises has been ordered to pay compensation of £300.
Steven Yeo, 25, of no fixed abode but formerly of Barton Road, Newport pleaded guilty to 1 count of criminal damage when he appeared in front of Magistrates on Tuesday.
Leah Dillon, prosecuting, told the court that on 19th October Yeo entered Howard House with some alcohol – a bottle of Captain Morgans spiced rum – stuffed down his trousers.
Due to this being prohibited at this specific accommodation, Yeo was asked to hand over the alcohol, something he refused to do, with the 25-year-old continuing to drink instead.
After leaving, Yeo tried to re-enter the premises by jumping over the fence. Once he was back inside again he began breaking fixtures and fittings. He also destroyed a radiator cover and damaged some windows too.
Police were called and Yeo was arrested.
Oscar Vincent, defending, said that as a result of the incident Yeo had lost his tenancy at Howard House, somewhere he had previously enjoyed living. He also added that the father of 1 can’t remember what happened that night but accepts what was declared to him in court.
Magistrates ordered Yeo to pay compensation of £300 and costs of £85.

The court costs would be more than the fine, of which we will pay as clearly a benefit kept piece of low life.
So he has to pay compensation comes out of his benefits which means we are paying
his bill. Give him community work scum bag
doesn’t bother him, after all it is the wonderful and generous taxpayers who fund his lifestyle.
Why do continual offenders, still receive benefits. They clearly don’t deserve it. While law abiding taxpayers, continually mugged by authorities to pay these persons who make no positive contribution in society.
