A 52-year-old man has been released on bail in connection with the death of a pensioner after the discovery of a body in Northwood on Monday.
The unnamed man was arrested during the early hours of Monday morning on suspicion of assisting a suicide after Police were called to Green Lane off Medham Farm Lane. At the address, the body of a 72-year-old male was discovered inside a detached garage.
Island Echo understands the suspect is accused of assisting the deceased – believed to be a Motor Neurone Disease sufferer – in ending his life. It is understood a vehicle was used.
A post mortem has been carried out however the results have proven inconclusive.
Forensic teams conducted a search of both the garage and residential property throughout Monday, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Officers investigating the case were given an extension by the courts to hold the 52-year-old suspect for a further 32 hours on Tuesday. It has been confirmed by Hampshire Constabulary tonight (Wednesday) that the man has been bailed until 9th June.
