A 51-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder earlier this week has been bailed as investigations continue into the death of a woman in her 50s.
As first reported by Island Echo, the body of a woman was discovered by Police at an address in Woodbine Close at around 12:35 on Monday (12th June).
Detectives arrested a suspect at around 21:00 that night as forensic examiners arrived in Newport to conduct initial on-scene investigations.
It has been confirmed this lunchtime that a Home Office Post Mortem examination was conducted and the preliminary findings were inconclusive.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary say that at this time the death remains unexplained and they continue to pursue all available lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances.
The 51-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, has been bailed with conditions until 12th September while enquiries continue. It is said that the man was known to the woman,

So police are able to arrest now on suspicion ? ,but had no evidence and still none. Anyone of us could know a person or just been to visit, that person might die and we get arrested on suspicion.
All police over the world arrest “on suspicion”. It is the judges/courts/magistrates etc that hear the case that then decide your guilt or innocence.
