A driver who was caught behind the wheel without a licence or insurance whilst driving through Havenstreet last night (Sunday) also tested positive for drug driving, Police have confirmed.
At 21:20, officers spotted a vehicle driving through the village with a broken rear light. Concerns were also raised about the male driver’s control of the car.
The vehicle was pulled and it soon became clear that the man had no licence nor insurance. The driver also provided a positive drugs wipe indicating the presence of cannabis.
The man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving along with various other motoring offences and the vehicle was also seized.
He was taken into custody at Newport Police Station where blood tests were taken.

Our own lowlife have been greatly added to by our council by taking in for gain more and more of the mainland even lower lowlife.

Agree ever increasing and drug driving is high on the Island,but prisons are not full because of world’s rejects, mainly British born and bred.
Home grown scum as usual. Most islanders can’t drive and don’t know what a license and insurance is.Never had to as all there previous generations rode cow or drove tractors.
We have plenty of our own Island bred “clones” from large families here for generations…

If they had ANPR fitted, they would have known immediately about insurance etc. and not having to rely on a broken rear light…
Totally agree , ANPR in cars, on selected roads and ferry access points on the mainland would be a great aid to catching criminals, and give the Police a fighting chance before the battle is lost.
Intelligence led policing is essential to tip the balance.
The island needs more dedicated traffic police as we have more than our fair share of idiots!
